HTC EVO 4G BEING RELEASED ON SPRINT IN THE U.S. In the uk most people can only upgrade every 2 years which begs the question, how far away is 4g in the uk especially when 4g has allready been tested in London. htc said they have no plans to release their evo phone in europe but for how long? Is it worth the wait not knowing how long that wait will be. * +

You could argue that 3.5g is fast enough, in the few areas we can recieve it. The other day I Downloded an app via standard 3g and even that seemed fast. So do we really need it. Its arrival may depend on if our networks are willing to invest in 4g licences assuming they havnt allready. It does seem unlikely when they only just clawed back the money from 3g licenses. * +

There was a real need for 3g for multimedia purposes cos video streaming for instance is allmost a no go for gprs. Its not impossable to stream over gprs but its limited capacity means its affected by network congestion much more than 3g. * +

So 4g isnt exactly urgent, not as urgent as perhaps 4g is now. Especially when we now have widespread 3g coverage that 'does the job' so what do you think? Will it come to the uk in the near future? Or is it as far away as 3g was when it was being discussed in the late 90's? * +

in the late 90s few people knew what 3g was and didnt really care because we are talking about the days when mobiles never even had colour screens let alone video so it certainly wasnt urgent then. some geeks would drool over mobile phones being released in japan and korea with colour screens back then but we all knew it was at least a few years before we would see it over here. * +

and then it came in the shape of the ericsson t68, the nokia communicator 9210 and the nokia 7210. the display on the t68 was pretty naf, but at least you could buy a snap on camera to clip on the bottom. then nokia released its first s60 devive the good old 7650 which had a much better screen than the competition. today I think nokia are begining to fall behind sadly * +
