i have downloaded sudo and root etc i also downloaded xarchiver so i can use zip on it however whenever i type in the command using sudo it asks for the password but doesnt let me key anything in? any ideas what im doing wrong guys? * +

when i try the apt-get install unzip i always get an error message sayin could not open lock file var/lib/dpkg/ lock - open 13 permission denied then it asks me am i root if i type yes i get unlimited lines of the letter y lol * +

that doesnt sound right, esp as there is no input response to the error message mentioned. The error message mentioned is given when 1 of things happens, 1st that you are not logged in as root, as crail said, type in root or - sudo gainroot - 2nd is that you have either the app manager open and running or havent long closed it, if so wait a few minutes and try again. It is user error that cause it * +
