My X10 has proven to be the best phone ive had signal wise,so much so that i have now set it to 3G/HSPA only,my network seem to have probs with GPRS/EDGE and ths forced me to start experimenting,it seems id be better off on 3G/HSDPA lock. How about you? which do you prefer for your smartphone? has it had a major impact on battery? * +

On my Winmo devices and iPhone, I always leave 3G off. None where I live and my battery life is much better than others with same devices. * +

yes 3g/3.5g off will save battery dramatically. i set 3g/3.5g only on my n900 as i find it looks for a 2g connection when it can, and i dont get a great 2g connection where i live. * +

I had great 2G coverage in my area bt then one tower got 2.5g and nw my phone kept switchng between gprs and edge and not keeping connection, seems all towers around my area are 3.5g so the connection is very stable. * +

gey full signal on 2 and 3.5g. leave 3g turned of unless i need it. average 3g speeds i get are 3.20mbps download and 1.30mbps upload. doesnt effect battery much at all. *
