Do you have lots of auto-connect apps and sometimes you just don't want them to connect? For instance - my weekly data bundle runs out at midnight once a week, but weirdly you can't purchase a new one for 2 and a half hours.. Now since I'm not usually up at 2:30, I've got two choices: turn 'flight mode' on, which means I can still use my phone for games, ebooks or Quantum Physics, but can't * +

then hit 'select networks' and choose 'new', name it something like 'no connection', don't enter any other details, just press 'ok' and exit. Now when the Cinderella time described above approaches, you simply go to 'start/settings/connections/select networks' and choose 'no connection' et voila! You can still make and receive calls and texts but there are no nasty data surprises. * +

For anyone who's thinking: 'why not just turn off your auto-connect apps?' The default email application takes you through 6 'next' steps before you can change to manual for EACH account (and I've got 7 accounts on auto) then there all the lovely night time satellite images in Pocket Weather.. * +
