What's the best over ear headphones to buy for around hundred quid or less? I was looking at akg k551 but the bit on the end is thick and wouldn't fit on phone with cases (how thick is the company for doing that ? ) (music4) * +

Well I obviously don't have much to do with the sub-100 pound market, said garion loftily - sniff, sniff (lmao) but the AKG's, whilst 'tight' are a touch overrated IMO. The Grado's available for around that price point sound excellent (despite being made of what seems to be Bakelite - flick one with a fingernail and see) but the way they adjust to fit your head by turning 360 degrees around a spindle means that the cord could be twisted 4 times away from it's rest position and you wouldn't even know, this can lead to the copper strands inside splitting and then you spend your life trying to grip part of the wire to make sound come out of the left and... you need new headphones.
For some reason Sennheiser have toned down their budget models in the last few years (sub-40 quid) possibly for European tastes, and they've lost 'attack', but around the 100 pound mark they'd still be the brand of choice for me. It's worth looking at models that cost up to 150 quid, then run off to Mr Richer who'll sort you out for a ton.
It's worth bearing in mind that when a manufacturer brings out a new model (often for completely cosmetic reasons) the old stock of the virtually identical headphone will become obsolete and unsaleable from their perspective, so you can pick up last years model (same as this years model but lacking the 'Special Edition' graphic on the headband) for half the price from Richers. * +

Cheers Garion(good2) I think I found something just right - audio technica 50x - I like its three cables supplied and it's comfort and sound quality is top banana without buying into the hype most do like the beats etc. And I been told theses sound like a two hundred pound cans for 120 pounds (music4) * +

On another subject Hoovers are going down in price due to eu laws on wattage - I got one in Sainsburys that was 160 quid (bulls**t recommended retail price) down to 47 quid - 2200 watts of fk you EU power lol * +

What cans you got Garion (I imagine a posh one )(hehe) I never got into the big bucks headphone as I felt pleased with fifty pounds ones or less - I still have my twenty five quid light as a feather sennheiser px100 - as an ex dj I did have Sony ones which back then were eighty quid - I decided as I get older and my music tastes just gets bigger I need to start listening to music properly. Instead of by rumbling club speaker lol (chav) (glowstick) I didn't want to go too expensive as most my music is on a poweramp in phone but I wanted it to be powerful enough to hear my vinyl via the technics amp every now and again. I just been watching reviews and that was one advice to not go overboard on too powerful headphones if you listen to music more on the go - at work I listen to music on a JBL belt mini speaker which I must say is pretty amazing for its size (good2) * +

Sorry for the late response - they're Sennheiser HDR180 cordless (radio frequency) and now I can't imagine using anything else. Although they don't sound quite as good as my old (wired) HD580's which eventually broke down, they really score on ease of use. As you can see below, they sit on the charging unit which I've got tucked behind my tv (no line-of-sight needed like the old IR cordless jobs) although the unit itself is not unattractive and could be out in the open.

They connect to the 'tape out' sockets on your amp (the other wires you can see are HDMI and SCART cables to my tv) and when I want 'em I just lift them off and put them on my head - sorted.
I'm a terrible one for stepping on headphone cables (or ripping them out dancing) so for me they're ideal - light too, with only one AAA battery in each.

They look marginally strange on your head, as can be seen in this [link]Pro Gallery Pic:http://goo.gl/QGVr3A[/link] but I'm already marginally strange, so they match. (lol) * +
