The Original song is Day-O(The Banana Boat Song) by Harry Belafonte. Popularized by Tim Burton's Beetle Juice. Lil Wayne did not make a meaningful contribution to the song. He didn't perform a cover to take the song in a different direction, he sampled a catchy part then p*ssed over it with a s**tty vocal style. What he did anyone can do. It shows a lack of musical talent. * +

reading.the only thing that was sampled was the line 6 foot 7 foot in the chorus from the banana boat song and i don't even think most fans would've recognized that considering the fact that the said song is well over 5 decades old while beetle juice is about 2 decades old (Majority of Lil Wayne fans being between the age group 15-25)..so your objection shows no validity.and the song was popular before the beetle juice movie.contrary to your statement the producer of the song was Bangladesh * +

The song was popular in the 50's but then forgotten by the 70's. Some people did covers but the song wasn't huge in the 70's. Then Beetlejuice made it popular again in the 80's. Now plenty of people use the song. eg Come Mr Taliban after 9/11 and in other parodies and in movies. The reason the producer sampled it is because it's catchy and people will recognize it an listen to the song. Proof of this is that the song would not be as successful if not for the sampling. * +
