They'll do remixes using programs like ableton live, FL studio, Cubase, Logic or some other DAW (digital audio workstation) they'll normally take samples of the original track, cut them up and add their own synths, drums, percussion and effects. Your best bet is just google for tutorials and the name of the program you want to use. I personally use Ableton Live, used it for a few years now and you * +

can get very professional results from it. Most of the music programs will have trial versions on their websites, so it's worth trying out different ones to you find the one that suits you. * +

There's Ableton Live 8 if you just want the main program, or there's Ableton Suite which has extra synths and modules. You can also use it dj with as well, I've got an Akai APC 40 which I can use as a dj controller and as a way to do live tracks. * +
