You can get trial versions of most if the programs from their websites, it's worth trying different ones out to see which one feels best for you. I used Cubase years ago but I do prefer ableton for it's flexibility. Logic is only on apple macs so not tried it, and not tried using FL studio as the interface would be too simple for my needs. Software versions of synthesizers, there's lot of free ones available and some excellent quality ones that you have to pay for. My current favourite is Spectarsonic's Omnisphere, its a mix of synthersizer and a build in collection of samples, so some very professional sounds can be made with it * +

You can buy a cd with the program on, I'm just saying it's worth trying the trial versions to see which program you find best to use. Bear in mind the price of these programs, it's better to try them out first and see what you like. * +
