I think an interesting example allied to the topic would be Freddie Mercury at Live Aid - can't really be bothered with Queen personally, and I'd imagine neither would the vast majority of the great unwashed prior to that performance - but THAT crowd interaction made the him (and consequently the band) even more famous than Bohemian Rhapsody. * +
