New album's due around September apparently hurry. Hope it's a return to form after 100th Window which was a Sinead O'Connor album in all but name (apart from the excellent Butterfly Caught). But I'll certainly get it regardless - great band. * +

In a way it's a shame that Blue Lines was SO influential - it kickstarted so many new genres and the careers of bands who picked up the Blue Lines ball and ran with it, often taking it further into even more exciting directions, that the original seminal work now sounds kinda cliched and dated. Every vibe and mood on the album was examined and expanded on in subsequent years. * +

If you were making a list of the most important albums of the 90s it'd have to be in there, but to listen to at home the sound IS overfamiliar for the reasons given above (and the tv trailer ubiquity of Unfinished Sympathy). BTW - the Mad Professors rework of Protection (No Protection) is an essential purchase for fans. * +
