create new sms - menu button - entry setup - change iTap to Tap *

u may need to 'mod' your phone to completely remove itap. i doubt d585b method will work indefinately. it will work for sms but not in java apps. you could put itap extended as your secondary entry method but you have to be pressing harsh several times every time you type *
