Yeah u can flash it without backing up but the purpose of backing up is for u to retrieve your stuff if something goes wrong but i flash mine without backing up because all my stuff was already on my pc plus i had the original firmware * +

Oh and for the person who asked flashing just changes the look for your phone plus adding a few extra features like unlimited vid recording,changes icons etc * +
