Don't think you need a SIM card for WhatsApp in the device but you need a number to register your device against. So download WhatsApp and then when it asks to type in your phone number, give it the mobile number you use. * +

It will then send you a text with a code. Simply type in that code on your iPod touch. And that's it. * +
