This is like asking what's the difference between a computer from back in 1996 and now. The newer phones are better in the hardware dept. iPhone 3GS still supports the latest operating system but probably won't support the next major iteration. * +

3GS is still a good phone. I had one up until a month ago. Still up to date and can have 90 percent of the apps an iPhone 5 can have. * +
