Ok I know it's not an iphone, but my daughter has an early iPod that her step mum decided to erase everything on it. Now she can't download any apps to it as it says it needs a newer op system. Is there anywhere to get apps that will work? * +

Update the firmware via iTunes on either a PC or mac. * +

iPod touch 3rd gen I think, no camera on it. And can't update firmware, thus why asking here. If there's a way to update it more than it is? It already says its upto date. * +

why can't you update it? what exactly does itunes say when its plugged in to it? she can delete songs etc but it shouldn't delete the firmware, if the ipod says it needs a new op system thats suggesting it still has one, unless its an even older model which apple no longer supports * +

best to find out and be certain exactly what model you have first * +

if an app says you need a new op system it should also tell you what is the minimum oldest version required to run the app, by that you will know what model touch you have, sounds most likely you have a 2nd generation one, as most apps now require at least ios 4.3 to run * +
