Apple has put certain restrictions on the iPhone, like not allowing the user to access the FULL filesystem, not allowing them to install non Appstore approved apps, Not allowing to change the DISPLAY features etc. Jailbreak REMOVES all these restrictions, Its proven to be safe and very easy to do. * +

iclarified.com has all tutorials with screenshots... Fairly easy process, But like wanny1 said, see the tutorial coresponding to ur firmware version and computer operating system. * +
