u can yes, take his hdd and gamertag, set it up round yours, make him a new account and he will get the first month of gold for free * +

depending on his gamertag, he may be required to change it, if he's tag is EXAMPLE and someone else has already used it first on live then change it to EXAMPLE2 or somthhing * +

u dont need gold anyway, its for online,last.fm, special offers etc.... u can still buy stuff with a silver account * +
