at o.p., batteries are cheap enough now for slims and phats. newt, only official sony phat batteries had eeprom for service mode enabling. they discontinued them. a good overnight charge is probably required, boot it using ac adapter then insert battery and leave to charge. once its been taking charge for few mins you should be safe to put on standby whilst it charges fully. * +
