Put all ur saves an game data on a usb stick, then format ur hd, then put the usb stick in ur ps3 an copy ur data on2 hd an im sure all ur trophies should b back on. * +

That might work for save games he still has, for the ones that can be copied but I bet he loses loads of trophies. There is no easy way to save trophies. Only way offline is by hacking your PS3. You can only do that if you're on firmware 3.55 or less. * +
