It rather depends on which version you've seen - one movie was made in 1947, one in 2001 and one in 2002, the last one was shown on tv recently and was a bit.. meh.
(although Mr and Mrs Squeers were good). Not sure there's been a decent adaptation to be honest, but reading the d*ckens original is highly recommended. * +

There have been some individually fine performances in each, but the great joy of d*ckens lies in his fantastic and often hilarious dialogue and sharply-observed characters and locations and these are often re-written for screen adaptations which is a great pity. * +

My just found out that it was written by charles d*ckens, but the one i watched was nice with stars like christopher plummer, anne hathaway. What yr was this version made. * +

That was the 2002 one directed by Douglas McGrath. Plummer was as dependable as always, but a lot of the dialogue was a bit stilted, and the pathos surrounding the passing of Smike was a tad overdone. * +

is there a forum for novels and stuff? * +

There isn't a dedicated forum here, although since the title of this one incorporates the word 'media' one would assume this to be the closest relative. You could try: www.booktalk.org or if you're on a mean-spirited network, the Google transcoded version here: http://is.gd/bmh3o (a more wap-friendly page load.) *
