Actually... i didnt read your question properly, you can always change the MAIN MENU icon's via the FS by uploading new png's and a menu.ml, but to change things like folder icon's, battery bar, signal bar and so on you need to patch the MAIN, the patch tells the phone to look in another folder for the png images upon bootup, but the main menu can be altered without patching of the firmware. * +

Thats not something you want to do... as the firmware sets might not be compatible with each other and could and probably will kill the phone (well not kill it but you'd need to flash in the matching FS and cust pack), and NO flashing the MAIN only wont debrand it, as 90% of branding is within the menu.ml, the many xml's ie: layout.xml, and the internet services menu is also housed in the FS. seriously dont flash the MAIN only mate. *
