Flashing is a complete reinstall of the phones firmware (software), its different from an update via Sony Ericsson website, as a simple update will only install a new MAIN part of the software and partially updates the FS section of the software (hense you keep all saved data after an update), you can also debrand the phone with FLASHING and revert the phone to how SE intended it to be (get rid of your operator restrictings, menu's and so on) *
