You need to patch the phone with the graphic patch (GSlide needed as SETool2 Lite gives a missmatch error for some reason), or you can create the folder tpa/system/icons in the phone's FS, you must place all images with the hexdecimal names and should be in higher case letters (caps lock), id recommend the patch as the tpa/system/icons method holds errors on how the phone's shows the graphic files. *

The patch method also has a bug, when the phone's heap memory files some images disappear untill you switch the phone off and back on to refresh the heap memory (java icons, and picture/video previews), but the patch is still better as it shows all images correctly unlike the FS method which displays the png's frame with a black or white square around the desired image... *

If you wish to change your media skin only it can be done in a different (never done it as iv always used the patch), if its just the main menu icons you want to change then it can be done via the menu.ml file, also note that some other menu icons can be changed with the menu.ml file (organizer, entertainment and messaging submenu's), its also best to use this along with the patch if you plan on changing ALL graphic's as it saves on heap memory. *
