you can also ping via sms. so far I only know how to do it with a sony ericsson hooked up to a pc, all it does is let you know the other phone is powered on, but does not show them any notification. * +

And the other use for pinging makes the server think ur surfing,very usefull to prevent disconnection during long downloads. Downloading is seen as inactivity, as it passes the string once. * +
