yea it is true that the BBM groups can run down your battery n slow phone down especially if its a busy group. i think u can fiddle with the group settings to stop barrage of notifications... xtreme these BBM groups are just what it says on the tin. u use a Blackberry? go into your BBM n create a group and just invite the BBM contacts u want... * +

they then can invite their own contacts to join n the group gets bigger etc... group can be based on whatever... n if u create the group then u can be the main admin person to boot out people etc... u can share pics on there too n make new BBM pin friends through your own BBM pin mates... * +
