following traffic the other day when a woman changing her radio or simply not concentrateing moved about 6 inches right hit the central resavation curb that bounced her up she hit the resavation lost control somehow missing all other traffic ended up in the left lane car a right mess. and it got me thinking. of all the crashes iv had, iv had a few, and how diffrent them crashes would of been if there was no curb ? * +

alarmingly most wouldnt of happened or would of at least been far less damiging. its only my oppinion but i think road side curbs kill more people in the world than speed. theres a buypa55 buy me that instead of curbs has sunk down guttering or smothe race track like curbs. whay arnt all curbs race track like ? were what ever happened you would ride up them and maintain control ? * +

i would like to think to protect pedestrians , but curbs dont stop cars mounting them , they simply bounce them up taking away what ever controle the driver had . road side curbs i say * +

The height of the kerb also is a factor. Many are about 2/2.5 inches but you do find some rather large ones which restrict you getting onto them. I don't really think that banning kerbs, having the gullys (which are actually to remove excess water in areas pro ne to flooding) or race track style kerbs are the answer. Would probably stop 99 percent of accidents. I think race track style kerbs may give the impression for some that the roads are a race track, even more so than they do at the moment. You mentioned bob that the woman was not paying attention and this is a factor in lots of cases * +

Wen i span my RS the curb slowd me down a lot b4 i hit a wall, probly save me from getin hurt! It did destroy the underside of the car tho! * +

good point cevroned track like curbs would definately speed me up . think a less harsh angled curb like the entrance to drive ways would be better. i know theres a road on the cost thats a mile straite with fields either side thats a terrible black spot mainly through bad over taking. a run over curb would take its 50 deaths a year down to 50 cars put into a field and drove off after a year * +
