It depends on your car. If you try to coast it will still use some fuel to keep it turning over. Anyone remember that top gear when jeremy drove a audi v8 to edinburgh and back? He said something about modern cars can be kept in gear and will then use no fuel. Comes down to clutch control etc * +

Most engines dont use fuel wen they go above 1600rpm when you are off the throttle! Wen revs go below 1600 its starts usin fuel to idle! * +

Probably on injected you will save fuel,not so sure on a carb *
