Stick with the Golf. You'll still get screwed for insurance due to the fact you've only passed you test but good car, can always be sold on when you want a change. Mind you, you'll have to look a adrian flux or something like that if your going to have mods even just one, has to be declared on insurance and some companies are getting picky re driving experience and no claims.
