15-20 years ago Group A and then WRC. Lack of major manufacturer entries now. 20 years ago it was Lancia, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Ford, Peugeot, Nissan etc etc. Competition for the best 4WD cars to sell their products to the masses. When Mitsubishi and Subaru finally left the interest waned. They have tried to cut costs with the new formula but it doesn't have the profile it did so the coverage is poor now. Bit like Le Mans really. Used to be a big deal for the works teams but nobody cares. * +

When you talk about racing the 80's are probably impossible to beat. Safety still wasn't quite as big a deal and there was an economic boom. So you had turbo era F1 which was brilliant, Group B rally which was epic, and group C endurance which was amazing. It'll just never be beaten now * +
