The master key for BMWs from 06 onwards has fallen into the hands of criminals,this device which recovery and car locksmiths use has been copied and is now selling on the Internet for a mere 6grand, it's perfectly legal to purchase but illegal to use without authorisation,BMW have said it will cost them millions to reprogram all the vehicles, some insurance companies have refused to insure some really expensive beemers until the problem is fixed * +

Master key? No they just download the diagnostic software from Internet and then connect to the constantly live Obd port and program any key to work in the car. * +

It's amazing how people have jumped on this band wagon. If your an owner or a member of a club or even pistonheads then you would of already been fully aware of this 'issue'. Unfortunately BMW have many 'issues' which are common and fail to even acknowledge as such. BMW are not going to do a recall they expect customers to ask them to change the software if concerned. I'm sure if you choose not to have this done then your insurance company may have a right to refuse any claim for theft if * +

Stolen without a key. There has already been many BMW owners who have asked their dealer to cut the wiring to the internal OBD port in order to stop their car being stolen. Some have even had sticks made for their windows to also advise this so to deter a thief from even breaking the window. * +

Also no insurance company has been reported to have refused to cover cars, however premiums have sky rocketed and in some cases insurance companies have refused to pay our due to the issue with the software which has left some guys fighting to get some sort of pay out from somewhere. BMW say its not their issue and the insurance company say its not their issue as the issue stems from the security system BMW use. Which just happens to be just slightly above the OBD port. This placebos chosen because the internal sensors do not pick up on this part of the car which is another flaw. *
