The rear wiper on my bmw 318ti compact 2003 stopped in the middle of the screen and wouldnt work, it temporarily started to work again but now has stopped altogether :( iv heard its a common fault cause the screen wash runs through the motors and leaks and causes problems?? The fuses are all ok and checked all the wiring to the motor and seems ok! ran a multi meter on the power wire and it says 5 something, when the rear wiper is switched on with the stalk it still reads 5 something, it has *

the wire that goes through the boot is probably frayed or broken from open and closing it. *

Had a similar problem on my e36. There is a little seal in the motor whr the water passes thru. When this seal wears out, the water enters the motor n causes rust etc. Eventually leading to failure of the motor. *

Solved the problem by replacing the motor of one i found in the scr*p yard. *
