How much am is it to have a H.G block test done? *uk* , got mayo on the dippy and under cap, disappeared and pure oil, then mayo again, coolant seems level and no major loss. Know condensation can sometimes cause the mayo esp if driving short journeys constant but want to be more safe then sorry * +

Not much. Its fairly quickly done. A quickie test can be to turn the engine over with one spark plug in, each cylinder, looking for bubbles coming up in the coolant when the engine is cranked over. This isn't definitive because it can be like pump seals etc too, so a compression test is called for with a proper gauge. If you are worrying about the cost, consider how much a destroyed engine would be instead. Any other symptoms? * +

I have seen several destroyed because the owner did not get a test. Chances are you are ok and you just need a service and flush. But someone who didn't pay attention came out one morning, overnight the cylinders had filled with water so when he went to start it the engine basically blew itself apart. You can't compress water.....lol hole the size of my fist where the conrods had obliterated the sump and crankcase. More engine on the floor than in the car * +

Thats what i thought only been using this one around 3 times a week for maybe upto a mile round trip, No other symptoms, part from squeaky belt in slow reverse, but planing to get belts n pump changed anyway, smoke was blowing like mad stood still or at traffic lights during winter, the coolant has that strong smell but hasn't got gunk in the middle * +

just suprised at the mayo in the dippy but got one person saying its HGF and few saying Vauxhalls do run cold and get some Condensation. how much we talking for the Dye or compression test? i used to get dio tests etc for free but doubt if my cousin would be happy if a bought another car to the garage, looks like im ripping the pish! dont mind paying 20/50 quid * +

temp runs between 0 and normally kicks in to 80 when it does finally get hot * +

Yeah its just time. A good independent would probably check it over and charge you an hours work. Like 30-40 quid maybe depends who you see. What is it, an eco ? they can be pro ne to gunking * +

Yeah eco, 16v , Gunking as in HGF or just Condinsation and semi mineral transversion? which main or regional can do it? just not motorsave they do one job for you and tend to phone up saying noticed few other monor jobs lol * +
