Hi. When using rear foglights in the UK do you have to switch them off once another car is behind you? Then switch them on again if they stop following? * +

The reason I ask is I had my foglights on as it was foggy, and a police car was following me. He pulled me up and said I should turn my fog light off when being followed by another car, even if its foggy. I have read the highway code but its a bit ambiguous. It says fog lights should be on when its foggy but also * +

Says NO light should be used to dazzle or distract other drivers etc. I didn't get done for it just a friendly warning but want to know if he was right? * +

I never use them if that helps * +

Id would say it depends on how foggy it is, slight fog yes turn them off but in dence fog then no, as the fog would be too thick for u to dazzle them and if it still does they are way too close to ur bumper! * +

Some do however use the fog lights in mist and that does dazzle the driver behind, i wouldnt say ive had to use mine for a couple of year actually, but it depends on the conditions when and where you are. * +

I can't remember the last time i used mine. As flossi says, some use them in mist or even worse, rain on motorways. Fog lights should only be on if its so heavy you can't see normal rear lights * +

Had mine on last yr, was thick fog n i certainly wouldnt turn them off in those conditions. Could just be a jobsworth cop * +
