i took my car to a specialist gearbox garage to have a new gearbox fitted. They rang me 2 days later saying that as they were trying to take off the old gearbox that some of the engine broke away with it,now the car is completely ed. I did tell them that my brother had a look at it before taking it in, they are saying they are Not to blame for what happened. Clearly they are, what do i do? * +

I am picking up the car today, and they have already mentioned the hour and half labour cost for taking of the gearbox 'which i have not agreed to. So what do i do also if when i get there they refuse to hand over the keys unless i pay them? * +

Or maybe he'll recommend 1 of his diy remedies, some sticky tape, an old beer can and the plug out the kitchen sink should do the trick... Tooth * +

Well you did take it there and agreed to have them remove and fit a new gearbox by the sounds of it. How old is the car? You can find that parts fuse together and when you try and take them apart it's a struggle or rust can cause issues when trying to remove parts again parts can come apart and break up so I wouldn't be blaming them until you've seen the actual box and engine damage * +
