Got air con on my new escort gti.. Neva had it b4 but im a bit shy of usin it coz im worryd bout how much fuel it a use! Am i best off just avin the windows down? * +

Been told if ya don't use it get bad smell because of bacteria build up in the pipes. Never turn mine off for this reason and hasn't affected me that much on fuel consumption but i do have a diesel car * +

you have to use your aircon because if you dont all the small seals in your system gets dry and crack thats why aircon systems leak * +

To be honest you'd waste more fuel by having the windows open at speed. The aircon supposedly effects bhp by about 1 to 2hp which doesn't cause a huge difference in performance or fuel consumption. But like advised it's gotta be used or it'll go duff but then if it's not been cleaned and recharged then it's propably already duff * +
