Nokia only bought Symbian in late 2008 to then make it open source, they formed the Symbian Foundation which is where Nokia, Samsung, SE, Moto, Freescale, Texas Instruments etc...would share code, Nokia didnt share everythng though and decided to do their own Appstore and got many devs to lock their apps to Nokia only, ultimately the majority of the foundation members then decided to leave and... * +

and join the OHA (Open Handset Allaince) formed by Google for Android, SE and Samsung were the only ones who were in both OHA and SF, but both then middle of last year left the SF and focused on OHA, and the rest as they say is history. :) * +

To sum it up, Nokia ruined Symbian completely, it actualy had a bright future before they bought it, you should have seen the Symbian OS9.2 UIQ3.1 demos, a UI that could have easily trashd both Android and iOS UIs, but Nokia were so cought up with S60 and SE and Moto were stupid enough to drop their UIQ partnership, we can now only wonder what could have been. * +

Thanks for your explanation dude. Oh! So it seems that symbian was really good. But why se, motorola droped uip was they forced by nokia's big market shares and power? Or they left themselves. But if motorola left symbian then on which os they made smartphones except android.? * +

They dropped UIQ for S60, well thats what SE did. Motorola made Windows Mobile phones as well as phones based on their own mobile version of Linux e.g. the Moto E6, E8 and Z6. * +
