the htc G1 hit its end of life date a little while back, it was released back in Oct. of 08 and was the first android phone on the market. However, thanks many hours of hard work by many great devs, the G1 lives on. The last official ota update for it was android 1.6 (donut) followed by an ota from T-Mobile that changed the build to DMD64, yet the G1 can run 2.1 and 2.2! can it go beyond? * +

all thanks to cyanogen and too many others to mention, including everyone over at xda. * +

2.2 is where it ends i think as 3.0 is more demanding, but lets see what happens, the G1 has come a long way, huge dev community, and its very affordable,so i doubt it will die even thou its 'officiality' is over. * +

today T-Mobile officially announced the G2, a true successor to the G1, and will be their first official HSPA+ device...i hope to get one when they release. yeah, i dont cyanogen or anyone else will be able to produce a ginger bread rom for the G1. they still need to work out the kinks in 2.2 also... * +

i hope they dont f up the G2, early photos show a 4 row keyboard vs the G1's famous 5 row...even hinted that test models where only running an 800Mhz processor vs other high-end devices running 1Ghz and beyond...i also want LED flash and notification light... * +

more screw ups with the G2 now include possibly no 3.5mm jack or HDMI jack, it also appears there may not be a front facing cam...come on people, please just make two super smart phones that have all eminities! i still want a G2 though, i personally could care less about HDMI out, and the 3.5mm jack will probably be added on via mini usb just like the G1...i will settle for a 4 row keyboard... * +

i say 2 because you need an all touchscreen version and one that has a slide out qwerty keyboard...that isnt confusing to type on. *
