I tried flashing a rom, but it says 'scatter' is missing or something like that...I suspect it might be a chinese phone, but I like it's ruggedness.....will be a pity to throw it away if nobody knows.....Thanx..... * +

I think it's fair to say you won't have much luck finding firmware without speaking Chinese

android are as exact as it can get with firmware. you're never going to find a firmware that's ''close enough'' and have it to work out for you.

it has to be for the absolute exact model of your device or wherever you have slightly different components, you'll have parts not working.

you might end up binning this phone or consigning it to a draw in a few months.
if you like messing around with phones your goals need to be:
1) buy a phone that was once really really popular, that way there'll be hundreds of mods and roms.
2) before you can do anything with said phone you need to root it (easier on popular devices) and flash an upto-date custom recovery. with this make a backup file of your phones system and data partitions. store on your microSD and you'll always be able to dig yourself out of trouble. the rule is make a backup before you try anything especially with the system partition. * +

if you're unsure whether the rom is for your device then ask in the thread or join xda and share the link to it there and ask if it will work.

you don't just slap something on it to try. a rom comes with a firmware component that is device specific. there will be versions of the same device made directly for phone networks that will not be compatible with other versions (the galaxy S4 has 28 different versions that can't use each others software without many changes being made to it).

DON'T DO IT UNLESS YOU LIKE PAPERWEIGHTS... * +
