that kind of reminds me of when they started removing manual overides for flash and focus features on camcorders. I found that annoying but I was clearly in the minority because most consumers never touched the manual options, so I guess its a world of auto pilots! these days auto focus systems respond much faster of course, but then it often caused blurry images whilst moving or panning. * +

camcorders then often picked up motor noise from the auto focus system which could be heard on the video, although some models did have a focus lock facility to avoid that problem. I found it easier and quicker to adjust the focus manually however. * +
