Hi people I have a Htc Wildfire on v2.1 (Eclair), upgradable to v2.2 but I never get a OTA to do this. Someone told me I can do It via the HTC dev site but I am totally confused how to do this...surely Im not required to root my device just to have it updated? * +

lol, download it from htc website. they should have instructions on how to go about it. oh the ROM you mean? you'd need root to instal a ROM. * +

eh, no you don't. When you update OTA or online, that's also a ROM, noob. Any system image, stock or modified, is a ROM. * +

so i wont need to root then? is the reason why i dnt get ota updates perhaps because i rooted before? * +

no, all rooting does is give you Linux administrative permissions. That shouldn't affect an OTA update. However when you do update you'll lose root. You should be able to reroot after the update though * +
