I've found a guide at xda for rooting without a PC but it's confusing me somewhat as it says download this zip for stock firmware that it calls cwm.zip then reboot into recovery mode. but other things I've just read say you need clockworkmod before you can do that. and you can't install it without being rooted. could some1 have a read of the page for me and tell if its worth bothering with for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719

It was once the easy way on 2.2 to 2.3.x, the way it works is to get your phone in download mode, then you only get option to flash update. The update file you downloaded is cwm(clock word mod) in other words, whenever you flash cwm successfully, then will the major flashing tools appear when you go into download mode. * +

CWM: 1. let you backup current rom (well if you have a lot of memory, you can backup all your favorite roms and if you flash a ROM you don't like you can restore previous backup) 2. let you flash files from your sdcard, that's just 2 major options but it's alot more. Once you have the option and the right root file for your sg2, you should get root after you flash it. BTW make sure anything you flash is ok to flash for your model ok. * +

did you read the page raymion ? that xda topic says its for stock ICS. and all I am asking is how the hell you use it. how do you follow the instructions that are listed without having a recovery mode. * +

its the same way as i mentioned, but i use odin and or super one click, odin files are easier. which model sg2 if your on i7 series i can direct you to that odin flash. * +
