according to a national newspaper I was reading last week 4g is now going to be launched in britain much earlier than previously thought, and the article claims its because of the analogue TV band being switched off. the article claims that everything everywhere (who operate t-mobile and orange) will launch a full 4g service by christmas this year. * +

and yet despite this there are no signs of any 4g ready handsets in the uk at present, android or otherwise. is it really wise upgrading to phones like the samsung galaxy s3 when 4g is this close? would it not make sense to wait for a 4g smartphone? especially since most consumers can only upgrade every 2 years. some of us are aware that the samsung quad core chipset in the british s3 does not support any variant of 4g network so clearly it is not 4g ready and american handsets wont be using the same 4g band as the uk. * +

the article says 4g will be ready this christmas in the uk and claim the first available devices will be 4g mobile broadband dongles and phones to follow. so if your planning an upgrade does it make sense to wait? comments....................opinions? the only phone rumoured to support uk 4g is the iphone 5 but even that seems unlikely because its thought it may contain the same 4g band as used in america like the ipad 3. apple were told to retract their claim about the ipad 3 being uk 4g compatible which caused a lot of disappointment amoungst some apple users in the uk. * +

you can buy unbranded phones from abroad that solves the 4g handset problem, only 2 networks will be 4g till next year anyway * +

Well 4g has started here yep dongles first now phones, but I think it'll be alright to wait for 2 years when it's matured prices will come down and better coverage * +

well I know one thing leon29 iam going to hang on even though I can upgrade now. I have 2 contracts, I upgraded to the gs3 with one and was going for the galaxy note 2 when its released very soon but after reading the newspaper article I think it maybe better to wait for a 4g smartphone. anyway regarding european 4g handsets can you be 100 percent sure they use the same band as the uk will use? especially considering this country likes to be different with everything. * +

well I guess it will take time to achieve widespread 4g coverage and iam sure it will be limited to major cities like 3g was when it first launched in the uk, but at least if you upgrade to a 4g handset its going to be more future proof than a current 3.5g handset thats the way I see it. and if its only a few months away surely its worth the wait? anyone remember those awfull bulky NEC 3g phones launched by the three network lol? and that walled garden with 3 services? all I can say is, thank the lord things have moved on since then! * +
