actually what frell said is right. It takes more resources to open up an app from scratch then it does to keep it resident in memory. I don't use any task killer besides androids own recent apps list. If I need to free up some memory, then I can just swipe apps closed. If you've got a good kernel it can make a difference as well, as it can schedule tasks in a better order. * +

and as said before, if android needs more memory then it will close apps down in the order they were opened until it has enough memory. The task killers can be pretty brutal as well, as they don't care what dependancies or resources an app uses. It just kills the lot, which can cause instabilities. * +

ive found that the people who rant on about how task killers are so good, are the same people that think that deleting battery stats will improve your battery life (another fallacy that was disproven by one of the android development team) * +

3rdrail, very well said nod, the last time i used a task killer was on my 1st month or so on my X10, i was so used to having to kill tasks on symbian, then i learnt that Android actualy does a fine job of it and shouldn't be disturbed. tophe, i suggest you take your own advice WRT your last sentence. * +

forgot to say, since when cant you close the stock browser tophe? you can close it on every version of android I've used. The only app that seems to open up by itself is Google maps, but that's because of some of the integration with other parts of the OS. *
