The guy who wrote is a true douche bag. All Android devices are the same once you strip away the custom skins especialy in Android4.0 ICS where Google told manufacturers to keep parts of it stock. If fragmentation is the reason we shouldnt call it a platform then we shouldnt call any platform a 'real' platform as everyone of them has some fragmentation. * +

He's completely missing the point of Android, the point is that to give manufacturers a chance to use the same base platform but all each manufacturer to differentiate themselves, if every Android were to be exactly the same in terms of SW and HW it would be in the same situation as Windows Phone, nobody would be interested e.g. consumers, devs and OEMs, as there would be so little room to innovate, just look at how WP has limited Nokia. * +

most os that are linux have different looks and feel. anyone whose used ubuntu for example will know the gnome, kde and xfe the core of android is the same on any device. just like you said polo to different themselves. * +

do we really have to talk about this article? Sorry but i dont see the point.. Just because manufacturers add their own stuff doesnt mean there is no real plattform behind. :-) * +

Lol, you're right stef. Having read through the comments under that article it seems the author is nothing but a Microsoft fanboy who hates Android, his article comes after comScore released the Dec11-Feb12 results of the USA that show Android now owns OVER 50percent of the US market and has huge growth in those 3months of around 3.2percent while WindowsPhone/WindowsMobile continues to fall, lol, shame. * +

I think. the fragmentation may come between different devices having different versions of Android, it's not quite as consistent as iOS, but it's still consistent enough to be called a platform for me * +
