Friends, I've got HTC Desire. Couple of weeks ago. And this is my first Android phone.Next week, I'm going to meet my friend. He has a laptop, and I was thinking of buying some DVDs of the movies I want, and get them converted for my phone from him.But, as I was searching, I came across this info. that maximum horizontal resolution a DVD can have is 720. And movies are generally shot in 2.39:1 aspect ratio, so the resolution of movie becomes, 720x301.And I wanted to crop them to 16:9 ratio to * +

....And I wanted to crop them to 16:9 ratio to fit my phone (on TV they show every movie in 16:9 format, so I've got used to it, and I, so, don't care that I lose some picture in 16:9 ratio). But cropping the video to 16:9 will result in 301x535 movie. And this is far low resolution compared to that of my phone's 480x800. So, I'm asking, shall I get into this whole mess? Will the movie look good on my phone, without artefacts and jagged or blurry image? * +

just convert them, you dont need to crop them

just convert it with good video bitrate and desired resolution it will turn out good.... * +

. I live in a hostel and here I've got nothing to watch movies except my phone. Thanks again! @ crail, if I didn't crop the movies to 16:9, then the movie will have huge black bars. Anyway, can anybody tell me, what's the best format, I should convert in? @saif, what bitrate shall I use? And converting to 480x800 means upscaling the movie, will it have any quality loss? * +
