Yep, upgrade it to 2.3.4 apparently it brings a bunch of new apps and features e.g. 3D Panorama for the Camera, also battery life wil improve. You may root if you want but 1st just see how you like it, rooting isnt that necessary, not like it is on iPhone, as at this point Android comes with everything out the box. * +
