I originally posted this on the tech forum but was advised to post it on here. Samsung galaxy tab 7 inch wi-fi only model currently running 2.2 froyo. Anyone know the firmware update options for these tabs? Is it possible to update to 2.3 gingerbread for example? * +

you should be able to root your tab, have a look at xda developers, they will have more info and will have a guide (if indeed it can be rooted) * +

Yes it can be updated via Kies. Its Samsung's official software. All samsung tabs/phones have access. * +

Yeah looks as though its not gonna be as straightforward as I thought cos kies reports the device firmware as up to date which makes me think 2.3 isnt an official update even though google results show the update plastered all over the web. Some sites claim the update was available a few months ago in the uk yet kies isnt picking up nothing. * +
