I just bought a HTC Desire second hand. I did like to know, should i root my phone before updating to gingerbread from official site(offline install, as i don't have working internet connection on pc, i am downloading it in phone), does the root remain after the update. Please suggest. Thanks. * +

no updating means you lose it and have to re root. better updating to a pre rooted custom fw * +

Actually i am a newbie on Android. Just turned my allegiance from Nokia. I am gonna update using htc rom's right now. Shall learn something from here and then go on to install cfw's. * +

welcome dude, if youre phone is rooted then just install a custom rooted rom, gingerbread, froyo or hd port rom, all three are available on the xda forum, one i reccomend is leedroid roms. He does all three and they work great. * +
