A roman skeleton found recently by archaeologists in York during the excavation of a ''Gladiator's graveyard/cemetery'', was most likely killed in combat by a Lion! Closer examination of the bones revealed clear evidence of bite marks on them, which most closely matched in size and shape with the jaws and teeth of a Lion.
Of course it's always been known that Gladiators fought with Lions, Tigers, Bears and such like but this is the first time evidence has been found of an actual participant in such. * +

Same place they ''found'' a bunch of their legionary. Around about 200ad, give or take a century or so. * +
