You buy a bat and ball for 1 pound 10 pence.
The bat costs 1 pound more than the ball..what does the ball cost? * +

the ball could cost anywhere from 1 to 9 pence and still have the bat sell for 1 pound more, unless I'm missing something * +

My first thoughts too. Wrong though. 1 pound more than let's say 9 would total 1 pound 18.
The ball costs 5 pence and the bat 1 pound more..1 pound more than 5 pence is 1 pound 5 pence..so the total is 1.10 pounds. * +

5 minutes. It takes 1 machine 5 minutes to make 1 widget, so 100 machines can make 100 widgets in 5 minutes. * +
